A Time for Healing and Change

December 22 to January 19 - Zodiac Sign: Capricorn - Element: Earth - Color: Turquoise

It is no accident that this is the time of year for healing and change. The Winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year, marks the end of one cycle and the beginning of a new brighter tomorrow. Let's propose that this year, we make resolutions we can live with. Traditionally people have a tendency to "feast and fast", which in plain English means "celebrating followed by regretting". This is the time of year people tend to put off healthy habits, saying "I am going to be healthier tomorrow" instead of "I choose to be healthy today". But the longer we wait the more difficult it is to make necessary changes. One day we wake up from all of our tomorrow's and discover that the three extra "Holiday" pounds we were going to loose tomorrow, ten years later, have added up to 30 extra pounds today. And the ever popular... "after I loose the three pounds I'll start to exercise because I want look better in my exercise clothes". Sorry people, it doesn't happen that way.

Let's discuss some strategies that will help fight off negative intrusions. In this New Millennium the playing field has been changed. You once were alone in your desire for a better world and a healthier body. Now as you look around you may notice that you have begun to experience yourself as a part of a unified field of people. This is the time to become connected with the collective consciousness of your universe. Life has a lot to offer, let go of the bad habits and disappointments of the past and begin new healthy habits that will create a better tomorrow. Change doesn't have to be hard, rather an adventure. This is the time to be goal oriented, start a new tradition by structuring your future from a place of health. If you want to see the end result of people who always put off today what should be done today, just visit a nursing home. The way I see it, a nursing home is the last stop for regret.

Sit down with paper and pen and outline and organize the coming year. If you master one small improvement a month by the end of this year you will be amazed at the new healthier happier you. Start your own book of the month club. Make a pledge to yourself to read one self-help book a month. Pledge to eat one perfect green meal a week for the first month. Expand that to two perfect meals a week for the second month or whatever pace that works for you. When we continue to make small consistent changes the results can be dramatic. As if by magic, this time next year you will be radiating health and happiness. Add to that the decision to cut out one unhealthy practice a week...etc. Perhaps instead of joining a health club you will never go to, join a yoga class or a dance class or walk your way to better health. One small step for man or woman, one giant leap in radiant health.

Because the element associated with this time of year is earth take this opportunity to find ways to ground yourself. There is so much new information rooted in ancient traditions. Do meditations connecting yourself to the earth. With feet firmly on the ground stretch to the heavens and imagine deep roots growing from the bottoms of your feet. Allow your earth energy to then bring in universal energy from the top of your head. Breathing in that which is above and connecting to that which is below only strengthens us. This activity helps us act from our center, the heart. Our thoughts mean nothing if they are not being powered from our heart. Buddha opened our minds and Jesus opened our hearts. Two thousand years later and we still haven't gotten the message. It isn't about who's right and who's wrong it is about loving each other without judgment. Loving hearts powering our every thought, word and action will take us further than any space vehicle.

The first step in loving others is to love ourselves first. We must love ourselves enough to treat our body like a temple rather than a garbage dump. I like to think we are each individually special. Like snowflakes, we each demonstrate individual beauty while at the same time creating a magnificent force of nature when together. Nothing is as beautiful than new fallen snow. But first, there must be the one perfect snow flake to make that happen. Be the change that starts this new millennium in a positive direction. Trust me, people will take notice and want whatever it is you have done to transform.

This transformation may not happen over night. Look to nature. Just as the caterpillar becomes the butterfly, or the acorn becomes the oak tree we too can become the radiant example of our true human potential. Say yes to life, say yes to the future you, say yes just because you love the sound of the word... yes, yes, yes. Here is another way to look at it. Perhaps we are all born butterflies and oak trees and it is our personal experience to realize that simple truth. So many of us live our lives as unfulfilled caterpillars and acorns. Never knowing that we were born meant to fly. Never knowing we were born meant to give shade or offer warmth and shelter to others. An old friend of mine always used to say that I was hiding my light under a bushel basket. Looking back she was so right. I have long since thrown off the basket hiding my light. When our light radiates out it can't help but touch those in darkness. Each baby is born perfect with the light of possibility radiating from its form. Rediscover the light. This is the time of year the light returns to our planet, what better time is there than now to allow your light to return as well.

It doesn't matter what other people do. What does matter is the individual. Ask not what your body can do for you — ask what can you do for your body! Take what ever tools you have been given and build the future you want and deserve.

Will it be hard? Of course.

Are you up to the challenge? Yes.

Will you want to give up every other day? Probably.

The important thing is to keep moving forward. If you fall, pick yourself up and keep moving forward. Clear out the cobwebs created by old thinking, dead food and stagnant practices. Think new thoughts, eat live foods and create habits that will serve you well. When you think about it all we have is the present moment. The past is gone and the future hasn't happened. If we continue to relive past habits and thoughts there is no hope for change or a better future. The rot and decay of the past will only go on to create more rot and decay in our future.

In the spirit of peace and the fullness of love, may each and everyone of you have a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year! Let me leave you with a gift for the New Year. Here are three smoothie recipes. Yes, one is chocolate, if you prefer substitute carob for the chocolate.

Green Lime Smoothie
1-1/2 cup vanilla almond milk or rice milk
1 ripe avocado pitted and removed from its skin
1 or 2 fresh lime(s) juiced
1 scoop Macro Greens
1 packet VidaCell
1 dropper Stevia Liquid Concentrate
1 cup spring or filtered water
I drink this room temperature, but if you prefer you may add 4 to 6 ice cubes.

Place all ingredients in a blender and process on high until creamy. You may add more or less water to achieve desired consistency. This is also a great way to "hide" other whole food supplements such as: Zeolite, psyllium husk or bentonite clay.

Low Sugar Fruit Smoothie
1-1/2 cup vanilla almond milk or rice milk
1 cup frozen fruit of choice - choose from pineapple, blue berries, strawberries,
   mango, etc.
1 scoop Miracle Reds
1 packet VidaCell
1 dropper Stevia Liquid Concentrate
1 cup spring or filtered water
I drink this room temperature, but if you prefer you may add 4 to 6 ice cubes.

Place all ingredients in a blender and process on high until creamy. You may add more or less water to achieve desired consistency. This is also a great way to "hide" other whole food supplements such as: Zeolite, psyllium husk or bentonite clay.

Hot or Cold Chocolate drink
1-1/2 cup vanilla almond milk or rice milk
1 heaping tablespoon of plain organic trade free chocolate powder or 1 level
   tablespoon of organic carob powder.
1 packet VidaCell
2 droppers Stevia Liquid Concentrate
1 cup spring or filtered water for cold only

I drink this hot or cold. For hot place all ingredients in a small sauce pan (omit water). Blend with a whisk and heat until liquid begins to steam, do not boil.

Add 4 to 6 ice cubes and follow blender directions for cold. Place all ingredients in a blender and process on high until creamy. You may add more or less water to achieve desired consistency. This is also a great way to "hide" other whole food supplements such as: Zeolite, psyllium husk or bentonite clay.
